As many of you know, I'm a vocal advocate for supporting one's local businesses. So many young professionals are out there, pursuing a dream of bringing together local consumers with the things/services that they love and in doing so, keeping the local money circulating in our local economy. Given our current situation, I'm not really buying too much these days, but I do love to consume food, education, and to support redistribution of perfectly good used goods. Today I wanted to give a shout out to some of my favorite local places! Click on the pictures to link to their websites!
Tandy’s - Tandy’s is one of my favorite places to go for Happy Hour. You can’t beat the ½ priced appetizers and drinks until 8PM. I mean, seriously, who does Happy Hour until 8PM? Tandy’s. And this girl right here. The outdoor patio is just lovely in warm weather and perfectly placed for post work people-watching.
Their Citrus Grill Wings are to die for. I can’t tell you about any of the other wings because those are the only ones I ever get, but they alone are worth the trip. Bill, one of the bartenders, is my favorite person who works there. His knowledge of cocktails mixed with his slightly curmudgeonly, yet sweet manner makes for a delightfully sassy conversation. They have events that occur each night of the week, and they attend to many different types of people. Word of advice - don’t stay past 8PM on a Friday night unless you have a penchant for club music and like to watch young-twenty-somethings bump and grind. If so, then, you just found your new place!
Veriditas Herbal Shoppe - I just found this one a few months back. Sarah Adams, a Community Herbalist, Wellness Counselor, and Plant Advocate, is a breath of fresh air to a society who has been over-medicated, over-commercialized, under-educated, and overall, quite apathetic to all of this. She advocates for taking charge of one’s health in a way that is intuitive to our bodies, although our brains have been taught otherwise.
Her shoppe is filled with glass jars of beautiful herbs, plants, elixirs, and teas. She proudly displays awards she’s been given for her blends, with the opportunity to purchase her award-winning concoctions. It’s a very cozy space, and she welcomes customers in as if they were visiting her home. She offers workshops on “seasonal balance, herbalism, diet, and wellness.” I went to a workshop on herbalism awhile back and learned so much in just an hour’s time. I definitely recommend that folks with any health issues including, but limited to anxiety, depression, digestion issues, sleeplessness, and headaches should definitely visit Sarah over on Warren St. in Concord!

Dos Amigos - Dos is probably my favorite lunch or dinner quick-stop place to eat. They pride themselves on fresh, healthy food that tastes great and is made quickly. They source locally when they can and they make everything right in front of you. The menu is vegetarian and vegan friendly, and they will make just about any combo of ingredients that makes a customer happy. Their burrito stuffings range from your average chicken and beef all the way to sweet potato and tofu. Their Alvarado Salad is to die for. The Cilantro Lime dressing is the perfect accompaniment to a fresh and light salad such as this one. I could eat it daily. The staff tends to be Hippy Drippy and Funky for sure - and the ambiance of the space usually includes some sort of Rasta/Reggae tunes. The cool thing about Dos is that you don’t have to be in Concord to enjoy them - They have locations in Concord, Dover, Portsmouth, Manchester, and Rochester.
New to You - Concord’s very best “Recycled Clothing” distributor! New to You is not your grandmother’s thrift shop. The owner keeps her stock fresh, current, and stylish - even though the prices are affordable. The shop itself is super cute and arranged in a very boutique-like setup. She has women’s, men’s, accessories like scarves, jewelry, and handbags, shoes, and more! She also supports many of her other local entrepreneurs by showcasing locally made jewelry and other crafty things. Lastly, they are great about connecting with other local musicians, artisans, and entrepreneurs to co-network. Time Flys Clothing is one of those local entrepreneurs you just HAVE to check out at her shop - they have great Tees for adults and kids! Stop by her shop down on Pleasant St. for a look see at some great finds!
