About the Webmaster:
Hi Ya'll - I'm Amy. I will be doing the majority of the work on this website. This whole adventure is something that I've personally been cultivating for a long time now... whether or not I always knew it at the time. What you need to know about me: I think less is more. I believe that nature is to be revered and protected. I believe that we should take what we need and need what we take. I think that food security is true homeland security - and it's delicious! I believe we should make decisions with the greatest good for all in mind. I think that simple is beautiful. I think that creativity is the product of one's communion with the energy of the Universe. Much Love - Amy |
Our Philosophy...
Ghandi, on what surprises him most about humanity. Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived. I have noticed that most of our happiest moments, the ones we look back on with a wistful smile, are the ones we have from experiencing something new, coming face to face with nature's gifts, embracing our families, and celebrating with friends. None of those moments have depended upon having a certain amount of "Stuff." This got me to thinking... If we do not need very much "Stuff" to be happy, why are we breaking our backs, at jobs that don't fulfill us, to pay for the debt we incurred to obtain this "Stuff" we don't need!?! It sounds preposterous when you say it like that. As you simplify your life, the laws of the universe will be simpler; solitude will not be solitude, poverty will not be poverty, nor weakness weakness. Henry David Thoreau I also noticed that anytime I left home to vacation or visit another area, I felt invigorated and our curiosity was piqued. When I'd get home, I'd go back to our daily grind, becoming bored and stagnant. This got me to thinking... if I feel invigorated and curious when I go to new places, why don't I try to go to more new places? I felt that it would be a shame to wait until I was retired (presumably the next time I'd have enough free time/money) to see some of the places that I could surely see while I am young and able-bodied. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity. Albert Einstein Basically, I want to enjoy as much life as I can, as authentically as I can, while still being responsible citizens of society. I am still going to work, I am still going to pay bills, I am still going to participate in society, but I'm going to do it in a way that I feel will give us the most opportunities for blissful joy and life-changing experiences. Simultaneously, by living a materialistically simpler life, I am hoping to wrangle myself free from "the Man's" Grip of Debt so I am not enslaved for the rest of my life.. This website will chronicle my experiences, share our lessons, and provide a place to learn about this simple, vagabondistic, earthy crunchy, sustainable life that I am so passionate about.
